This INDEX and page numbers are for:

Monbiot, George.  2013.  FERAL: Searching for enchantment on the frontiers of rewilding.  Allen Lane. 317p.

NB: In the above BioList, the Taxonomic Classification acts as a INDEX for species names.  The sequence of names is predictable within a conventional (but ever changing) heirarchy.

Where only Common names are given in the book's INDEX (pp 301-317), I've listed the species names here.  For some Common names, I've named more than one species to cover a range of possible species: choose the ones you want. The aim is to assist BioList users to quickly find names against which to record personal notes and comments.

With BioLists, what names are used and how they are used is up to the user. Any Family name, or other lower level name returned by BioLists can easily be altered or replaced - but doing so would be at the expense of not being standard - of losing compatibility with your other BioLists and with other users.

Communications of biodiversity information needs to be faster and more direct than it has been up to now. BioLists offers more than just efficient communications based on the science, it brings into use a key function of our brains: we are designed to recognise and have names for the most luxuriant diversity of species in any ecosystem. To know how to revive Nature, we need to re-learn the language of Nature. Common (vernacular) names will do.
